Crispy, tangy, and slightly sweet — this homemade Sweet & Sour Fish is better than takeout! Tender tilapia filets are fried until golden and crispy, then tossed in a vibrant pineapple-ketchup sauce with fresh vegetables. Ready in under 30 minutes!

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, place tilapia filets. Add salt, white pepper, and cornstarch. Mix until the fish is evenly coated.
  2. Heat neutral oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the coated fish one piece at a time, stirring gently to prevent sticking. Fry until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Once the fish reaches your desired crispiness, add onion, red bell pepper, and romano beans. Cook slightly, then strain the oil from the pan, reserving the fish and vegetables.
  4. In the now empty pan, add the sauce ingredients: ketchup, sugar, pineapple pieces (with juice), MSG, and vinegar. Turn up the heat and let the sauce reduce until it thickens slightly.
  5. Add the fried fish and vegetables back into the pan and toss to coat evenly in the sweet and sour sauce.
  6. Serve immediately with steamed rice. Enjoy!
