Thick, custardy, and impossibly fluffy—this viral Japanese-style French toast is a game-changer. Soaked in a rich egg and cream custard, pan-fried until golden, then finished in the oven. Topped with homemade whipped cream and maple syrup for the ultimate breakfast indulgence.
Ingredients:
- thick-cut bread
- 4 eggs
- sugar
- vanilla
- heavy whipping cream
- maple syrup

Directions
- Slice a thick slice of bread (about 1½-2 inches thick).
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, heavy whipping cream until smooth and well combined.
- Submerge the thick bread slice into the custard mixture, allowing it to soak for 30-60 seconds per side until fully saturated.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and add butter. Fry the soaked bread until golden brown on both sides.
- Transfer the pan to a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 5-7 minutes to finish cooking the center.
- Make the whipped cream: In a large bowl, whisk together heavy whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Remove the French toast from the oven and transfer to a plate. Top with a generous amount of homemade whipped cream and drizzle with maple syrup.
