Directions

  1. Melt the butter: Melt butter in a non-stick pan over medium-low heat until it’s bubbling and coating the bottom of the pan.
  2. Cook the eggs: Crack in the eggs and season with salt and black pepper. Let them cook undisturbed until the whites are mostly set and the edges are crispy.
  3. Flip and add cheese: Carefully flip the eggs over. Immediately add one slice of cheese on top and let it start melting.
  4. Add the ham and more cheese: Flip the eggs again. Add the ham slices and top with the second slice of cheese.
  5. Add the bun: Place the burger bun halves directly on top of the cheese, cut-side down. Gently press them down into the eggs and cheese.
  6. Crisp the bottom: Cook for 2–3 minutes until the cheese underneath the bun melts and forms a crispy, golden layer.
  7. Flip and toast: Carefully flip the entire sandwich over and toast the other side for 1–2 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Add tomatoes and close: Open the sandwich, add tomato slices, season them lightly with salt and black pepper, then close the sandwich. Serve immediately!

Pro Tips

  • Low and slow: Cook the eggs over medium-low heat to prevent burning and ensure the cheese melts perfectly.
  • Cheese matters: Use a good melting cheese like American, cheddar, or provolone for that perfect gooey texture.
  • Bun choice: A soft brioche or potato bun works best—they toast up beautifully and soak up all the flavors.
  • Get creative: Add a drizzle of hot sauce, a spread of mayo, or some crispy bacon for extra flavor.
