Fresh, bright, and bubbly—this homemade Sprite is the real deal! Made with real lemon and lime zest, natural sugar, and sparkling water, it’s fresher, brighter, and free of preservatives and corn syrup. Once you try it, you’ll never go back to the canned stuff.
Ingredients:
- 3 lemons (zested)
- 6 limes (zested)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water (boiling, (rough amount))
- 1/2 lime (juice (per glass))
- sparkling water (chilled)
- ice
Ingredients are subject to availability at local stores. Unavailable items will be automatically substituted at best-effort.
Directions
- Make the lemon-lime syrup: Place 1 cup sugar in a medium bowl. Using your hands, rub the zest of 3 lemons and zest of 6 limes into the sugar until it’s fragrant and fully incorporated.
- Pour in 1 cup boiling water and whisk until the sugar completely dissolves.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into another bowl to remove the zest. Let the syrup cool completely.
- Assemble the drink: Fill a glass with ice. Add about ¼ cup of the lemon-lime syrup (or more to taste), the juice of ½ lime, and top with chilled sparkling water.
- Stir gently and enjoy immediately. Note: Homemade Sprite loses fizz quickly because it can’t trap high-pressure CO₂ like factory-sealed cans, but it makes up for it by being fresher and free of preservatives or excess corn syrup.
