The Picky Eater Reset: DIY Personal Pizzas

Why It’s Included

Pizza is one of the most universally accepted foods among children.

Instead of asking children to eat unfamiliar foods, this dinner lets them build their own pizza while gently introducing new toppings alongside familiar ones.

Research shows children are more likely to try foods they helped prepare themselves. Tonight is all about ownership, creativity, and exposure.

The goal isn’t to cover the pizza in vegetables.

The goal is to let children interact with toppings they normally avoid.

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.

Step 2: Create the Topping Bar

Place each topping into its own bowl. Keep everything separated. Arrange the toppings buffet-style on the counter or table. Children should be able to clearly see every ingredient.

Step 3: Build the Pizzas

Place naan breads on the baking sheet. Spread 2-3 tablespoons pizza sauce onto each naan. Leave a small border around the edge. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Add desired toppings.

Remember: Children do not have to use every topping. The goal is participation.

Step 4: Bake

Place pizzas into the oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes. The cheese should be melted and bubbly. The edges should be lightly golden.

Step 5: Cool & Serve

Allow pizzas to cool for 3-5 minutes before serving. Serve alongside any remaining toppings.

Parent Coaching Corner

Tonight is about creativity.

Avoid:

❌ “You need a vegetable.”

❌ “Put mushrooms on there.”

❌ “That’s not healthy.”

Instead say:

✅ “Tell me about your pizza.”

✅ “What should we call it?”

✅ “Would a restaurant serve that?”

Giving children ownership reduces pressure and increases curiosity.
