These Southern-Style Slow-Cooked Green Beans turn a simple side dish into serious comfort food. Fresh green beans, tender potatoes, the Holy Trinity, and a smoky turkey leg cook in seasoned chicken broth until rich and flavorful, then the tender turkey is shredded back into the crockpot before serving.

Directions

  1. Place the SMOKED TURKEY LEG in the bottom of a large crockpot.
  2. Add the SMALL POTATOES, chopped ONION, CELERY, and BELL PEPPER.
  3. Add the cleaned and cut GREEN BEANS over the vegetables.
  4. Add the BUTTER, ONION POWDER, GARLIC POWDER, SMOKED PAPRIKA, BLACK PEPPER, and TONY CHACHERE’S NO SALT SEASONING.
  5. Pour in the APPLE CIDER VINEGAR and 4 CUPS CHICKEN BROTH.
  6. Cover the crockpot and cook on HIGH FOR 6 HOURS.
  7. Carefully remove the SMOKED TURKEY LEG from the crockpot. Pull the meat away from the bone, checking carefully for any small bones and discarding them all.
  8. Shred the smoked turkey meat and return it to the crockpot with the green beans and potatoes.
  9. Gently stir everything together and serve hot. Cory recommends pairing these green beans with barbecued chicken and warm cornbread.
