Golden, buttery, and perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside—this classic French toast is the ultimate breakfast comfort food. The secret? A sprinkle of sugar that caramelizes in the pan for that irresistible crunchy crust.
Ingredients:
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tbsp white sugar
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 5 slices 3/4-1 inch thick bread

Directions
- In a bowl, crack eggs. Add milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until well combined.
- Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Melt butter in the pan.
- Dip thick-cut bread (brioche, challah, white sandwich bread, or sourdough) into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly. Let the bread soak for about 20 seconds per side.
- Place the soaked bread in the hot pan. Cook until golden brown on the first side, about 1-2 minutes.
- Flip the French toast. While cooking the second side, sprinkle sugar on the cooked side and let it caramelize. Repeat on the other side after flipping back if desired.
- Remove from the pan and serve warm with your favorite toppings: maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar, or whipped cream. Enjoy!
