  1. Brown the butter: Melt butter in a pan over medium heat, stirring constantly until golden with brown specks and a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool 10–15 minutes.
  2. Mix butter + sugars: Whisk browned butter with brown sugar and white sugar until smooth.
  3. Add egg + yolk + vanilla: Whisk in one egg, one egg yolk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Mix dry ingredients separately: In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Combine dry + wet: Stir the dry ingredients into the wet until just combined. Don’t overmix!
  6. Add chocolate chips and scoop the dough onto a baking sheet.
  7. Chill the dough for 30–60 minutes for best texture.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 10–12 minutes, until just golden. Do not overbake.
  9. Cool on the pan for 10–15 minutes before serving.
