Buffalo Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients:
- 1 Lb low-moisture mozzarella (block, not the super wet fresh kind)
- 1 Cup Flour
- 2 Eggs
- 1 1/2 Cup Italian breadcrumbs
- 1 Tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Tsp Paprika
- Salt and Pepper
- Oil for flying
Buffalo Sauce
- 1/2 Cup Hot Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Butter (Melted)
- 1 Tsp Honey (optional, but balances it)
Ingredients are subject to availability at local stores. Unavailable items will be automatically substituted at best-effort.
- Cut the mozzarella into thick sticks and place them on a parchment-lined tray. Freeze for at least 1–2 hours to help prevent the cheese from melting too quickly while frying.
- In one shallow bowl, add the flour. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and water. In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Coat each mozzarella stick in the flour, then dip into the egg mixture, then coat in the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps one more time for a thicker, crispier coating.
- Place the breaded mozzarella sticks back into the freezer for about 15–20 minutes while the oil heats.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F. Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Remove the mozzarella sticks and place them on a paper towel-lined plate.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the hot sauce, melted butter, and honey until combined. Drizzle or lightly toss the mozzarella sticks in the buffalo sauce.
- Serve immediately with ranch or blue cheese dressing and enjoy while warm and melty.
