- 0.5 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (opt.)
- salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 small to medium boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 8 oz fresh or shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish

- Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). - Sauté Aromatics:
In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened and slightly golden. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant. - Prepare the Sauce:
Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir in the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. - Cook the Chicken:
Nestle the chicken breasts into the sauce in the skillet. Cook for 1–2 minutes on each side to sear the chicken slightly. - Bake:
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). - Add Mozzarella:
Remove the skillet from the oven and top each chicken breast with the mozzarella cheese. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 2–3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. - Garnish and Serve:
Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve hot.
